Academician LIU He is one of the leading figures in the field of oil recovery engineering, and has presided over major national and ministerial level science and technology projects such as the National Key Research and Development Programme - Key Intergovernmental Cooperation Project "Key Technology for Energy and Water Linkage and Efficient Green Utilisation" and the National 863 Programme Project "Key Technology and Equipment for Oil Recovery Wellbore Control Engineering". He has established a number of major national and provincial science and technology projects. He has created a "continuous integration" engineering management model for oil recovery engineering technology and management, and has overcome a series of key oil recovery engineering technologies such as fine stratified water injection and oil and gas reservoir production enhancement and transformation, solving the major problems of maximizing the utilization of tailings resources and the efficient development of low-grade reserves on a large scale. He has been awarded one National Science and Technology Progress Special Award and three Second Class Awards, one National Technical Invention Second Class Award; eight Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology First Class Awards; 24 authorised invention patents; three books and more than 80 papers. LIU He has been a member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the International Petroleum Engineering Association, a member of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Petroleum Drilling Equipment and Tools of the National Standardization Administration of China, and an Honorary Professor of the University of Nottingham, UK.
