Chen Dan is responsible for research and management of projects in fields such as coordinated development of energy, environment, economy, and society, as well as coal consumption cap, demonstration and pilot carbon neutrality projects at regional, provincial, and municipal levels, just transition, and dispersed coal control. She is dedicated to research on environment, energy, and climate. Prior to her current role, she served at the University of California, Los Angeles, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and the Institute of Urban Meteorology, CMA, Beijing. She has led and contributed to several research projects commissioned by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Ministry of Science and Technology. She has published papers in journals such as Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, Atmospheric Environment, Nature-Sustainability, Energy, Climatic and Environmental Research, and Energy of China. In 2018, she was selected into the “Beijing Overseas High-Level Talent Program. ” She received her Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering in 2004 and her Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering in 2009 from Tsinghua University.
